Early Stoneware Jar with Incised Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, early 19th century, two-gallon ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and lug handles, decorated front and back with an incised swag-and-tassel design highlighted in cobalt. Swags joined by impressed circles. 4" x 2 3/4" mass of in-the-firing residue on side of jar. 7 1/2" horizontal crack extending through residue. Flaking to surface. 3" x 1 3/4" flake to one side. Heavy chipping to base. Rim chips. H 11 1/2".
