Scarce Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to J.P. Schermerhorn, Richmond, VA, circa 1835, ovoid jar with thick, squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated on both sides with an undulating vine bearing leaves and oval-shaped blossoms. Handles additionally brushed over with cobalt. An unusually small-sized example of a Schermerhorn jar, this piece being the smallest by this potter we have ever offered. Chipping to base and rim. H 9".
