Extremely Rare Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar, Impressed "WILLIAM LINTON'S / POTTERY AND SALESROOM / Corner of Lexington and Pine Streets, / BALTIMORE, MD," circa 1860, large-sized ovoid jar with squared rim and ribbed lug handles, decorated with cobalt over the makers mark and swags to the left and side. Reverse decorated with an elaborate cobalt flowering vine design. This jar is only the third signed example known of this important Baltimore potter's work. Provenance: Recently found in Texas. Crack extending across front with thinner cracks extending from it. Base chip and small base nicks. Handle chip. Rim chip. Two small contact marks on reverse. H 17".
