Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Milkpan with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "W.H. LEHEW & CO. / STRASBURG, VA," circa 1870, large-sized tapered pan with pouring spout and applied tab handles, decorated completely around with a series of large cobalt swags and hanging flowers. Impressed with Lehew mark with backwards S's under one handle, along with a two-gallon capacity. Strong decoration, desirable form, and rare size. Spidering lines on exterior and underside, not visible on interior. Crazing to shoulder and thin lines in spout. Some other short lines from rim. It appears that given the nature of these flaws, many of them occurred in the firing. Rim chips. H 6" ; Diameter 12 1/2".
