Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Syrup Jug with Cobalt Flowering Urn Decoration, Dated 1854, Stamped "OS GIFFORD / WATERTOWN, NY," domed form with tooled shoulder and flared pouring spout, decorated with a brushed cobalt design of a flowering plant extending from an urn with scrolled handles. Incised details to leaves and flower tips. The date "1854" is deeply incised into a flower at the center. A fine example of New York State stoneware with excellent decoration, scarce form, and rare maker. Rim chip and spout chips. H 11 7/8".
