Rare Large-Sized Redware Bowl with Sponged Manganese Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO," circa 1860, tapered bowl with semi-rounded rim, the interior covered in a lead glaze with heavily-sponged manganese around the interior shoulder. Impressed with John Bell mark on exterior shoulder The number "40" is written in chalk on the underside. Desirable, unusually-large size. Provenance: From a long-term collection consigned from Oregon. 1" shallow chip, one minor chip, and light wear to rim. Areas of glaze loss to interior base. H 6 1/2" ; Diameter 15 3/4".
