Scarce One-Gallon "NEW MARTINSVILLE, WEST VA" Stenciled Stoneware Advertising Jar, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, decorated with freehand cobalt stripes at the shoulder and base. Stenciled across the front in cobalt "CLARK & LEAP. / NEW / MARTINSVILLE. / WEST VA.". A small stenciled leaf is incorporated into the stenciled words. In-the-firing fry to cobalt. Some minor tiny nicks to shoulder molding. H 9 7/8".
