Very Rare Glazed Redware Inkstand with Applied Figure of a Dog, PA origin, early to mid 19th century, slab-constructed, rectangular inkstand embellished with applied balls of clay and a hand-modeled figure of a reclining, dachshund-like dog at the center. Dog is fashioned with lop ears, curled tail, and incised detail to face. Includes original, wheel-thrown inkwell and sander. Surfaces of stand, well, and sander, all covered in a lead glaze. Outstanding form. Some wear to ears of dog. Light wear to nose of dog. Sander with 6/10" thin line extending from top surface. Ball-shaped finial reglued on right lower front of inkstand. Restoration to surface of 1" x 3/8" section below dog at base. Length 7 1/2" ; Width 3 6/10".
