Rare Squat-Shaped Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Fantail Bird Decoration and the Inscription "U + S," Stamped "WHITE'S UTICA," circa 1875, short, wide stoneware jug with applied strap handle, decorated with a slip-trailed bird with long fan-shaped tail in a running stance atop a stylized tree branch. The inscription "U + S" is written above the bird in cobalt script. Jug measures about one gallon. Rim chip. Some fry to cobalt. H 10 1/2".
