Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "W.H. LEHEW & CO. / STRASBURG, VA," circa 1870, cylindrical vessel with applied lug handles, having a tooled and heavily-rounded shoulder surmounted by a tall flaring collar. Front and reverse decorated with a horizontal design of three flowers extending from a central stem with leaves. Impressed with Lehew maker's mark under one handle. Exceptional form with strong decoration and color. Includes antique wooden dasher and guide. Crossed hairlines on one side, measuring 5" and 7". Crack around large section of base, continuing 4" onto underside. Base chips. Rim chips. H 15 3/4".
