Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Flowering Urn Decoration, Stamped "L. & B.G. CHACE / SOMERSET," Massachusetts origin, circa 1850, ovoid jug with semi-squared rim and applied handle, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed cobalt design of leafy vines extending from an urn. 6 1/2" x 7" group of spidering cracks on side of jug. Lines in spout of jug. Small vertical line at base on reverse and small X-shaped lines on reverse, both of which probably occurred in the making. Shallow chip on underside. Handle has stone ping, in-the-making chip, and a few lines. H 15".
