Large-Sized Open-Handled Stoneware Jug with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Ohio origin, circa 1850, highly ovoid jug with open strap handles, decorated on the front with a boldly-brushed cobalt flowering plant design with wavy stems and dotted blossoms. Reverse impressed "JC SMITH / MOGADORE / OHIO" surrounded by brushed cobalt leaves. Outstanding form, size, and decoration. Lines in base area, possibly in-the-making, which do not appear to go through as jug still rings true. Small base chip. H 21".
