Rare Glazed Redware Open-Handled Jar, Eastern TN origin, probably Grainger County, second or third quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tall collar with flattened rim, and large rounded-loop handles with depressed terminals, the exterior surface covered brownish lead-based glaze colored with iron or manganese. Clear lead glaze to interior. Provenance: Originally found in Rutledge, TN; Case Antiques, Inc. Auctions & Appraisals, Knoxville, TN, Apr 19, 2008, lot 66. Chips and wear to rim. Wear to handles. Some surface wear and small flakes to body of jar. Chipping to bottom edge of jar. A sealed Y-shaped crack in underside, extending approximately 2 1/4" diagonally onto base on one side and forming a small Y at the base on opposing side. Heavy glaze wear to interior. H 10 7/8".
