Rare Glazed Redware Pitcher with Daubed Iron Slip Decoration, probably Sullivan County, TN, circa 1840-1880, ovoid pitcher with flaring collar and ribbed handle with doubly-depressed lower terminal, the surface and handle decorated throughout with daubs of reddish-brown iron slip and covered in a clear lead glaze. Exhibited: Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Museum of East Tennessee History, May 16-October 30, 2011. Provenance: Wahler states the following in her notes about this pitcher: "Was owned by Mary Glover. She died age 92 in 1985 from Piney Flats. (Jeter maiden name) I purchased it from MJC. The other similar pitcher was found in Bristol." Small chips and wear to rim and spout. Wear to edges of handle. Areas of surface wear. Chips and wear around bottom edge. H 9 7/8".
