Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Inscribed "TR," Thomas Rudisil, Lincoln County, NC, circa 1880, rotund jar with thin, semi-rounded rim and large pocket handles, the surface covered in a streaky brown alkaline glaze. Incised "TR" at shoulder. One handle impressed with a crosshatched design within a circle. Provenance: Purchased at the Catawba Valley Pottery and Antiques Festival. A 3" hairline from rim on front, not visible on interior. Two small chips to proper right handle. A 2 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse. A small rim chip. Some surface wear to rim, handles, and body. An in-the-firing fissure to underside, not visible on interior. H 11".
