Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, attributed to Lewis Miles's Stony Bluff Manufactory, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1855, ovoid with tooled shoulder, thin, squared rim, and arched lug handles, the surface covered in a matte to semi-gloss alkaline glaze featuring grayish runs over a reddish-brown ground. Related vessels exhibiting a similar glaze have been attributed to the enslaved potter, Abram. A 1 5/8" rim chip. A 2 1/2" flake and 1" chip to one handle. A 3/4" chip to opposing handle. A few base chips. H 14 3/4".
