Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Stamped "SAM'L. I. IRVINE / NEWVILLE, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with tooled spout, decorated with a brushed wreath flanking a small foliate device. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Staining throughout. Small chips around spout. Some minor fry to cobalt. Small in-the-firing flaws to surface, including a small glazed-over base chip. H 15 3/4".
