Glazed Stoneware Torso Jug, attributed to Norman Smith, Lawley, AL, second quarter 20th century, wheel-thrown, double-lobed form with applied and incised features to head including a prominent beard or chin, the body with impressed circular details forming arms and the front of a jacket, the reverse with applied handle. Surface covered in a reddish-brown Albany slip type glaze. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. Very nice condition with only minor flaws: wear to proper right ear; minor wear to proper left ear; a nick and minor wear to interior of spout; some light surface crazing; and a minor in-the-firing ping to proper right side of body. H 8 1/4".
