Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron Slip Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1950, rotund jar with flared rim and arched tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a slip-trailed looping line decoration below two straight lines, applied in reddish-brown to medium brown iron slip against a gray-green, alkaline-glazed ground. Additional iron slip looping line decoration below handles. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. A top-to-bottom crack from rim, extending across underside onto shoulder of opposing side, where it forms a large V. An additional thin crack extends off from this damage horizontally at base. A minor handle chip. H 11 1/2".
