Scarce Small-Sized Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Pitcher with Iron Slip Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, squat-shaped, ovoid pitcher with narrow, footed base and wide, flaring collar, decorated with slip-trailed looping lines of iron slip to the collar and body flanking a straight iron-slip line at the collar's base. Light-gray-green alkaline-glazed ground with appealing bluish to the body, upper handle terminal, and interior collar. Desirable form, size, and decoration. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. A long horizontal hairline at base. A 1 1/4" hairline to spout. A 1 1/8" x 3/4" flake to exterior of rim. A horizontal hairline through handle. H 7".
