Manganese-Decorated Redware Inkstand with Impressed and Applied Decoration, Dated 1839, American, probably PA origin, 1839, slab-built form with circular openings for well and sander, decorated throughout with impressed floral and coggled geometric motifs, the pen tray impressed with the date, "1839," the top surmounted by an applied foliate motif. Well and sander receptacle covered in a blackish lead-and-manganese glaze. Pen tray with clear lead glaze. Missing well, sander, two corner finials, scrollwork at juncture of well and sander receptacle, two applied finials at base of pen tray, and four feet on underside. Loss to applied foliate motif on top. Small surface flakes and edge wear. L 7 1/8" ; W 6 3/4" ; H 3".
