Rare and Important Manganese-Decorated Redware African-American Infant in Cradle Bank, probably Pennsylvania, 19th century, slab-constructed cradle on rockers with a hand-modeled figure of an African-American infant holding a bottle on interior. Pierced eyes to figure and carved slot in mouth. Lead-glazed surface with manganese highlights throughout. Highly unusual form and subject. Provenance: Christie's Sale for The Seamen's Bank for Savings, March 13, 1991, Lot #177; Ex-Collection Bill Bertoia; Crocker Farm, Inc., May 21, 2005, lot 151. Minor wear. L 6 1/4".
