Fine Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Wall Pocket, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, wheel-thrown form with footed base, applied scrolled hanger, and coggled rim, the front decorated with a hand-modeled and applied bird-and-floral motif. Surface decorated with streaks of copper and manganese over cream-colored slip and covered in a clear lead glaze. While the Strasburg wall pocket form is typically found with moderate to significant damage, this example survives in strong condition for its type. Provenance: Recently surfaced in PA. Very nice condition. Bird's beak with chip to tip and wear, typical of this form. Typical in-the-firing stacker marks to rim. A small in-the-firing stacker mark to side of scroll work. Wall pocket retains a clean, essentially as-made surface with high luster. H 7".
