Scarce Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and narrow, flaring collar, the glazed surface decorated with sponged cobalt to the shoulder and collar against a streaky grayish ground. Unusual glaze treatment. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a small in-the-firing chipped area to bottom edge. H 6 5/8".
