Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Bowl, Stamped "JGB .," Joseph Gregory Baynham, Trenton, SC, late 19th century, jiggered bowl with rounded wall, pronounced rim molding, and footed base with recessed underside, the entire surface including underside covered in a mottled grayish alkaline glaze. Base includes three original carved cutouts to foot, which are glazed over. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. A Y-shaped hairline across underside, continuing partway up wall in two places and extending to rim in another. The part of the hairline that extends to the rim includes a small chip along the line on interior and a minor rim chip. Two rim chips, measuring 7/8" and 1/2". Some light exfoliation to interior base. Some minor in-the-firing surface flaws. An in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder. Diam. 8 1/8" ; H 4".
