Fine and Scarce Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tooled rim, brush-decorated across the body with two spotted tulips in Bell's distinctive style, flanking a four-petaled blossom, all applied over a slip-coated surface. Swag decoration to collar, ascending the handle, and emanating from the base of the handle. Impressed at shoulder with John Bell maker's mark. Desirable form and size featuring strong decoration and color. Very nice condition with a 2 3/4" hairline at base extending onto underside, a 2 1/8" Y-shaped hairline at base extending onto underside, and a few in-the-firing contact marks to surface. H 8 3/4".
