Rare Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Cake Crock with Martinsburg, WV Advertising, Palatine, WV origin, circa 1875, wide, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring stenciled advertising for the Martinsburg, WV merchants, "FRAZER & BISHOP / JOBBERS / IN / GENERAL [MERCH]ANDISE." The first example of this form that we have offered featuring advertising for this firm. Excellent condition with some staining and omission of the letters "MERCH" in "MERCHANDISE." H 6 1/4" ; Diam. 7 7/8".
