One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Nathan Clark, Jr., Athens, NY, third quarter 19th century, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, pierced collar, and applied handle at base on reverse, brush-decorated with a curving flower across the front. Includes metal lid, cork, and dowels added to collar piercings. A thin 2" crack from rim on reverse. A chip and minuscule nick to interior of rim. Tip of spout with a minor U-shaped surface line and chip. Small chips to shoulder molding. A small in-the-firing ping to side of spout and minor ping to shoulder. Some fry to cobalt. A narrow, shallow flake and small glazed-over iron ping to handle at base on reverse. H (excluding lid) 9 1/2".
