Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Flying Eagle Decoration, Stamped "E.T. FORD & CO. / MECHANICVILLE / NY," third quarter 19th century, ovoid churn with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flying eagle carrying a spotted banner in its beak. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Desirable decoration and rare mark. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. A thin crack across underside forming a 3 3/4" x 4 1/4" Y at base. A 2 1/4" firing crack to interior of rim, not visible on on exterior. Two faint, approximately 3 1/2" hairlines from rim on front. A 1 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse. Chips to interior of rim. Underside slightly raised. Staining to surface. H 14".
