Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W.ROBERTS. BINGHAMTON.N.Y," circa 1870, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with spotted body and fan-shaped tail, perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. A 3" in-the-firing separation on interior of rim, visible as a faint 1 1/2" vertical line from rim on proper right side of jar. Some light fry to cobalt. A few minor in-the-firing flaws to surface. A drip of brown stain near base no reverse. H 10 7/8".
