One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT.," circa 1855, semi-ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a plump-bodied bird perched on a nicely-detailed branch. Lesser-seen bird motif and desirable vessel size. Excellent condition with two minor spout nicks, a tiny flake beside maker's mark, and a tiny ping to proper right side. H 11 1/2".
