Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Spray, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO. / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1860, cylindrical jug with tapered spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a floral spray accented with dotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A thin 2" worn area to shoulder on proper left side of jug along with a 1 1/4" in-the-firing contact mark near base below. A thin 1 1/4" worn spot to shoulder on proper right side. An unglazed in-the-firing contact mark at base on jug's proper right side. A few minor in-the-firing pings to surface. Minor wear to decoration. Some bleed to cobalt, extending above decoration. H 16".
