Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1870, semi-ovoid jug with tooled spout and extruded handle, brush-decorated with an undulating flowering vine above a stylized "2" flanked by dashes, underscored by a stripe. In-the-firing stacker marks to shoulder. Handle with a small chip and two minor nicks. An approximately 2 1/2" worn area to far proper left side of jug's front. Two minor in-the-firing surface chips to front. H 14".
