Eight-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Decoration, Inscribed "J. Lambright / Newport / Ohio," circa 1875, ovoid jar with flared rim, two open vertical handles, and straight-and-wavy-line incising to the shoulder, inscribed on the front in slip-trailed cobalt script, "8 / J Lambright / Newport / Ohio." Reverse inscribed with a slip-trailed "8" within looping stylized flower blossom. Includes salt-glazed lid, possibly original to the jar. Provenance: From a fifty-year VA collection. Jar in very nice condition: a 3 1/4" Y-shaped surface line to front, not visible on interior, a few tight, faint lines in underside, some staining, and shallow chipping and wear to inner rim for lid. Lid in excellent, essentially as-made condition. H (including lid) 21 1/4".
