Fine Two-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Stamped "J.A.C.," John Anderson Craven, Randolph County, NC, mid 19th century, highly-ovoid jug with tooled neck and wide, semi-rounded mouth, the surface covered in a salt glaze with a dramatic run descending from the shoulder and smaller runs at the handle. Impressed with "J.A.C." maker's mark on proper left shoulder beside a two-gallon capacity mark. Among the more beautifully-glazed examples of John A. Craven's work that we have offered. A 1" x 3/4" base chip with traces of old green paint. A small handle chip. Faint crazing to underside. H 15".
