Outstanding Miniature Redware Dish with Profuse Two-Color-Slip Tree-of-Life Motif, probably Alamance County, NC origin, circa 1820-1840, wheel-thrown dish with slightly-canted body and broad flaring rim with squared edge, extravagantly-decorated throughout with a tree-of-life design in alternating cream and brown slip under a clear lead glaze. The color and distinctive potting of this dish relate it to pieces produced in Alamance County, North Carolina, including works by Solomon Loy. A strikingly-decorated example. The extensive coverage of the slip design over the surface places this dish among the most heavily-decorated examples of American redware, as well as one of the finest redware miniatures, that we have offered. Provenance: Acquired decades ago from Don Walters. Very nice condition. Two small rim chips. Small flakes to interior. Diam. 3 7/8".
