Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jugs, Northeastern U.S. origin, circa 1880, both of cylindrical form, a three-gallon example with stenciled diamond-shaped design, stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG," PA origin, paired with a two-gallon jug with crested bird perched on a flowering branch, NY State origin, probably Brady & Ryan, Ellenville. Three-gallon jug with a 2 1/4" in-the-firing chip to underside along bottom edge, another small base chip, and staining, small in-the-firing flaws, and traces of residue to surface. Bird jug with a 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" base chip on reverse, wax residue to spout area, an in-the-firing iron ping near base, some light wear and staining to surface, and fry to cobalt. H (of taller) 16".
