One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG," PA origin circa 1880, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, pierced clay tabs with wood-and-wire bail handle, and applied handle at base on reverse; decorated on the reverse with an abstract stenciled design resembling a snowflake. Brushed cobalt wreath motif to base of spout and highlights to applied clay tabs and handle at base on reverse. One clay tab fully restored. A small glazed-over rim chip. Staining to surface. An in-the-firing contact mark to reverse. H 8 3/4".
