Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1830, ovoid jar with applied lug handles and semi-squared rim, brush-decorated with a large horizontal tulip on the front and reverse underscored by an additional tulip motif spanning the jar's circumference. Swag decoration below handles. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 2" rim chip and minor glazed-over rim chip. Minor nicks to molding below rim. Faint crazing to interior of rim. Short, minor surface lines to bottom edge of jar. Some in-the-firing fissures to underside, not visible on interior. Some vertical surface lines to interior, not visible on exterior. H 12 1/2".
