Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER. / ROCHESTER," NY State origin, circa 1860, ovoid jug with tapered spout, decorated with an artistic slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with alternating details to blossom and striped leaves. Slip-trailed "2" above. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Provenance: James Chebalo Collection. Significant tight cracks around base, extending onto underside. Two flakes to underside. A long inverted Y-shaped crack extending partway around shoulder/neck of jug. Staining to surface. Two glazed-over pings to proper right side of jug. A minor spout chip and small glazed-over spout chip. H 15".
