Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Lidded Cake Crock, Stamped "R.C.R. / PHILA," Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1880, wide, cylindrical form with ribbed lug handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with horizontal foliate motifs. Wavy stripe decoration below each handle and highlights to handle terminals. Impressed under one handle with "R.C.R. / PHILA." maker's mark. Includes Remmey swag-decorated lid, possibly original to the crock. Crock with a tight 4" crack from rim, areas of wear to top of rim, and some staining. Lid with chips, some of which are glazed over, and a 4" hairline from edge. Diam. (of crock) 9 3/4" ; H (of crock) 7 1/4".
