Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and arched tab handles, brush-decorated with a large meandering vine bearing five blossoms and graduated leaves. Freehand stripe below. Provenance: From a fifty-year VA collection. Significant flaking around base. Heavy chipping to interior of rim. A few small chips to exterior of rim. A tight X-shaped crack in underside, continuing onto base. Chips to handles. Staining. H 13 5/8".
