Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Large Cobalt Bird Decoration, attributed to West Troy Pottery, West Troy, NY, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird on branch extending from shoulder to base. Shallow chipping around interior of rim painted brown. A 3 1/4" in-the-firing line from rim on reverse. Three short surface lines from rim on reverse. A thin 2 1/2" crack from rim above proper left handle. A 1 1/8" filled rim chip on proper right side of crock. A minor filled surface nick beside proper right handle. A large X-shaped line to underside, including a 2 3/4" line extending up base on reverse. A small piece of adhered clay on reverse. An area of glazed-over, in-the-making base wear. Light staining. H 13 3/8".
