Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "N. CLARK & CO / LYONS," NY State origin, circa 1840, cylindrical crock with applied lug handles and tooling to shoulder and rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flowering plant featuring a cupped blossom with heavily-detailed interior, accented with a wavy flourish and flanked by two cobalt-script "3's." Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Provenance: James Chebalo Collection. Wear/fry to cobalt. Rim chips. A 3" surface line on reverse beside proper left handle, not visible on interior. A thin 1" crack on underside, continuing 5" up proper left side of crock. H 9 1/2".
