One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Fish Decoration, attributed to Frederick Carpenter, Charlestown, MA, early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and tooled spout, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of a slender-bodied fish. A tight X-shaped crack to shoulder area, emanating from a small surface chip or in-the-firing stone ping. A tight network of lines around base, possibly in-the-firing. Typical firing flaws to surface, including a contact mark to left side of jug and a recessed spot to right side of jug's front. Two shallow base chips. Two shallow spout chips. H 12 3/4".
