One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Star and Floral Decoration, attributed to Howe and Clark, Athens, NY, circa 1805-1813, ovoid jar with footed base, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a boldly-brushed eight-pointed star on one side and a distinctive floral motif on the reverse in the Howe and Clark style. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. An approximately 5 1/2" crack from rim on floral-decorated side, including a small chip to interior along this crack. Rim chips. An in-the-firing contact mark to front and reverse. Chipping around base. A small X-shaped surface line near base on star-decorated side, not visible on interior. Staining to surface. H 9".
