Fine Slip-Decorated Redware Flowerpot, Chester County, PA origin, probably Vickers Family, first quarter 19th century, ovoid form on pedestal base with tooled body and crimped rim with coggled embellishments, the surface of the potted coated in a yellow slip with copper and manganese decoration under a clear lead glaze. The yellow slip treatment is purposefully omitted from the rim, which is instead decorated with vertical manganese striping on its interior and exterior, applied under a clear lead glaze. Original drain hole in underside. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a fifty-year New England collection. A 2 3/4" surface line from rim, visible as a 1 1/8" line from rim on interior. Small rim chips. An old 2" x 3/4" filled section to pedestal base. Glazed surface and crimping survive in strong condition for a form that is typically found damaged. H 6 7/8"; Diam. (at rim) 6".
