One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG," PA origin circa 1880, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, pierced clay tabs with wood-and-wire bail handle, and applied handle at base on reverse; decorated on the reverse with an abstract stenciled design resembling a snowflake. Brushed cobalt highlights to base of spout, applied clay tabs, and handle at base on reverse. Includes metal lid and spout cover. Staining and residue to surface. A salt drip to front and underside. H (excluding cover) 9".
