One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, pierced clay tabs with wire bail handle, and handle at base on reverse, brush-decorated with two large vertical tulip motifs on the front and on the reverse with a matching tulip design. Cobalt wreath decoration to base of spout. Cobalt highlights to clay tabs, maker's mark, and handle at base on reverse. Some restoration to end of spout. Some restoration to one pierced clay tab. A short line to rim on side of pail. A line descending from rim to shoulder on reverse of pail. A few small rim chips. Two minor nicks to shoulder molding. Thin horizontal surface lines to edge of handle at base. A small base chip. H 9 1/2".
