Three-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "EVAN R. JONES / PITTSTON, PA.," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a heavily-leafed stem bearing a hanging blossom composed of graduated spots. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Includes swag-decorated lid, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1885. Provenance: From a fifty-year VA collection. Crock with a 4 3/4" inverted Y-shaped line to proper left side of crock, spots of fry to cobalt, some surface staining, and residue to underside. Lid with a loss to knob and a minor chip to flange on underside. H (including lid) 12".
